Day 5 started off cold and misty. Most of my clothes were still wet from the day before, But off we went.
After some glassing we spotted the heard that we were after and started off. Once we were on top of the hill the wind and driving rain picked up. It was a cold and blustery day. The pictures don't do it justice!
We climbed to the top of the hill after a small heard of Stags, we then followed a burn down the hill to get into a shooting position. Between the driving rain, and crawling in the cold highland burn, I was soaked by the time we got to the shooting position.
Right when we arrived in the shooting position, about 100 yards from the Stags the wind shifted and they got our sent and off they went.
It was about noon and I was cold, wet, and tired. The siren song of the fire back at the lodge called. So we decided to call it for the day.
On the way back the river that we walked across in the morning had risen several feet and we had to radio back to the Ghillie to come pick us up in the Argo (A 6 wheel go anywhere vehicle used on the hill)
Sitting here I regret that I did not push on as I am sure James would have gotten me another Stag. But when I was cold and wet the fire was so inviting!
I spent the afternoon in front of that fire drinking Scotch, and telling stories with the Stalkers and Ghillies. It was a wonderful way to end the trip!
