In the past few years the quail were really hit hard by the drought in California. Last year they made a slight comeback and this year they seem to be doing even better. I went out Hunting to my "Secret Spot" and was able to shoot a limit with less than one box of shells. You laugh but my quail hit rate for the last few years has not been very good.
I have finally gotten myself dialed in again.
The country that I hunt is pretty rugged but in a good year it can produce some very large covies and be a great place to hunt quail.
The one issue that I have found is that a lot of people have discovered my " Secret Spot". This time there where lots of other hunters out. I don't know if I will return this year. I had a great hunt but not sure the quail can handle the current hunting pressure and I don't want to make things worse.
